The free course "Discovering Archives" begins in Bagni di Lucca.
A theoretical and practical training program designed to rediscover local history, the preservation of memory, and the origins of local families. As part of the project "Community Guardians: Archives and Libraries for Well-being and the Region"—promoted by the Unione Comuni Garfagnana with European ESF+ 2021-27 funding—the free course "Discovering Archives" begins in Bagni di Lucca.
Calendar, location and program of the training course
The course, aimed at all adult citizens, will be held in the Sala Rosa of the Circolo dei Forestieri (in Piazza Jean Varraud 10 in Bagni di Lucca) and will be divided into four lessons:
Dates and times: Monday, November 23rd, Tuesday, November 24th, and Wednesday, December 2nd (4:00 PM to 7:00 PM); final lesson Saturday, December 5th (10:00 AM to 1:00 PM).
Course contents: From the fundamentals of archival science and bibliographic cataloging to digital consultation of public, private, and diocesan archives.
Practical genealogy and heraldry workshops: Participants will learn the techniques for conducting family history research, consulting sources and burial records, and creating their own family tree and coat of arms.

For public employees, participation counts toward the 40 hours of annual training required by the Zangrillo Directive.
