The Municipality of Bagni di Lucca has launched the Viva project (Live, Imagine, Evaluate, Act), a participatory initiative aimed at actively involving citizens, families, and associations in shaping the future of the area. The primary goal is to combat population decline and improve the quality of life by leveraging local strengths and addressing daily challenges through open dialogue.
How to participate: the public questionnaire
The first step of the project consists of a simple and accessible public questionnaire, available online from May 25th to June 21st. To ensure maximum inclusiveness, the Municipality has also planned to distribute paper versions at 10 strategic points throughout the area.
A method based on listening
The project stands out for its bottom-up approach, which aims to transform the community into active participants. Some key points of the method include:
Gradual involvement: A group of local “ambassadors” have already tested the tool to optimize it.
International support: The journey benefited from the contribution of Nicole Van Der Steen, who offered an external perspective deeply rooted in the territory.
Future phase: After data analysis, scheduled for late June or early July, participatory meetings inspired by the “World Café” model will be held between September and October.
According to Councilor Priscilla Valentino, the project was created to give a voice to those who live in the area on a daily basis, avoiding top-down solutions.
