On Saturday, May 30, at 10:00 a.m., Bagni di Lucca will inaugurate the rebirth of Villa Ada and its historic park. Thanks to a €600,000 investment, funded by the PINQuA ("Living in the Serchio Valley") project, a contribution from the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca, and municipal funds, a previously derelict structure will be transformed into a multipurpose cultural center.
Redevelopment interventions and new services
The restoration project has returned to the citizens a functional and modern building, integrated with the historical value of the complex:
Restoration: The work involved the ground floor, the electrical and heating systems, and the creation of new toilets.
Park: Extraordinary maintenance of the garden has been carried out, making the play areas and walkways accessible to people with disabilities.
Features: The facility will feature co-working spaces and study areas with free internet, ideal for training and remote working.
"Agora of the Arts": the community's home
Renamed the "Agorà delle Arti" by Mayor Paolo Michelini, the villa aims to become a hub for discussion and creativity. Its strategic location near the school complex and the free Wi-Fi in the park will also allow for outdoor lessons. The restoration of Villa Ada is part of a broader plan for the local area's revitalization, which also includes reopening the municipal swimming pools.
A jewel of history and architecture
The building boasts 16th-century origins. Over time, the villa has been transformed by illustrious owners, including the Scottish Consul Mac Bean and, in the 20th century, by the Counts De Chayes, who entrusted the reorganization of the park to the renowned landscape architect Pietro Porcinai. Purchased by the Municipality in 1975, today Villa Ada has finally regained its central role in the social life of Bagni di Lucca.
